A Unique Oil Painting Still from Loving Vincent
The long-awaited new film Loving Vincent will soon be released, and it is known above all for its unusual style. Did you know that every second of the film represents 12 painted images? Since the film is 80 minutes long, that adds up to 57,000 images, an almost unbelievable number.
Dozens and dozens of artists recreated the paintings as animations using Van Gogh oil paints. The film was created from the works of the famous artist.
You might think that something like this takes a very long time and is almost impossible to produce. But the opposite is true: these painters worked on the film for many months. “This tracing technique is called rotoscoping. Although it was used before, it has probably never been presented on this scale,” one of the painters explains with a smile at the easel, then turns his attention back to his painting.
Royal Talens, the Biggest Sponsor Royal Talens
The Van Gogh product collection, supplied by Royal Talens, is the main material used to create the first painted film in history. This Dutch company provided hundreds of tubes of oil paints for the entire project. As the biggest sponsor, Talens took part in the international art supplies fair in Frankfurt, Germany, and brought along an original work-in-progress oil painting straight from the studio, together with the artist.

His paintings gave the world a glimpse into his life, inspiring Dorota Kobiela, who decided to bring this ambitious project to life in collaboration with BreakThru Films and Trademark films.
The project was expected to cost 40,000 pounds, which would be used to pay the artists and create specially adapted studios. Fortunately, more money was raised, and the final amount was estimated at more than 53,000 pounds.
The film's Slovak premiere date is not yet known. In the Czech Republic, however, it is scheduled for 12 October 2017. Watch the trailer for Loving Vincent: Loving Vincent.
